‘Breakfast with Santa’ event set

There will be a “Breakfast with Santa” from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, at Helen Baller Elementary School, 1954 N.E. Garfield St.

The event will benefit Camas High School’s 2012 Grad Night celebration.

Tickets are $10 and include a photo and breakfast. These can be purchased at the door and via pre-sale at by calling 834-3243.

Cape Horn-Skye raises money for American Legion

Families and students at Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School raised $1,148 for American Legion Post No. 122.

The group will use the money to purchase turkeys, potatoes and other staples for area families at Christmas.

The check was presented to the American Legion at the school Veterans Day assembly on Nov. 10.

Excelsior High students display artwork at local eatery

Masks and poetry created by Excelsior High School students are being featured at Los Dos Mexican Restaurant, 701 “E” St., Washougal.

Students from teacher Ali Miller’s class created plaster masks as part of a creative writing assignment. The students designed and painted the masks, then wrote poetry to help interpret or explain their choice in the design.

The masks on display were created by Emily Quist, Tristan Collins, Travis Hibbs, Carl Niskanen and Jon Colligan.

Step Ahead Preschool has openings

Grass Valley Elementary School’s Step Ahead Preschool program currently has openings.

The preschool is open to children with and without special needs.

Certificated teachers work with early childhood professionals to provide a program that meets children’s social, emotional, cognitive and physical development needs.

WSU Vancouver offers financial aid workshop

Washington State University Vancouver is offering a financial aid and scholarships workshop from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, in the Dengerink Administration building, room 110.

The event is free and open to the public, but is geared toward high school students looking toward attending college.

The workshop will answer commonly asked questions such as: What is financial aid? Are there any scholarships available? What happens after filling out a financial aid form? How do I get my money?

WSU Vancouver is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205. Free parking is available for in Orange Lot 2 for the workshop.
