Teen game night, ‘Read to the Dogs’ set

There will be a teen game night at the Washougal Community Library, 1661 “C” St., from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28. Call the library at 835-5393 for details.

Also coming up will be a “Read to the Dogs” night Tuesday, Jan. 25 from 6 to 7:30 p.m., where readers of all ages can sign up to read aloud to a therapy dog for 24 minutes.

Pre-registration is required by calling or stopping by the library.

Children’s dental health day is Feb. 5

“Children’s Dental Health Day,” has been set for 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Clark College Dental Hygiene Clinic, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver.

It will include free X-rays, sealants, fluoride treatments, fillings and extractions for children ages 2 to 19 from families with limited income and no dental insurance.

Appointments can be scheduled by calling 360-397-8020.

Hathaway students to perform play

Missoula Children’s Theatre comes to Washougal again when Hathaway Elementary School students perform “King Aurthur’s Quest” at 3 and 7 p.m. at Washburn Auditorium, 1201 39th St.

With the help of Missoula professionals, the cast spends only one week rehearsing for the play, then performs it that weekend. The performance is free.

Gingerbread making workshop scheduled

There will be a gingerbread man decorating workshop for children up to sixth-grade and their parents at the Camas Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave., Monday, Jan. 24, from 7 to 8 p.m.

Preregistration is required by visiting the library or calling 834-4692.

WSD sets reception for board members

January is Washington School Board Appreciation Month, and the Washougal School District will host a reception for board members at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25 at the district office, 4855 Evergreen Way.

The board will also honor retiring members Orlan Gessford and Tom Huffman, whose resignations will be effective Jan. 31. The board is seeking applicants for the two positions.

Arts Academy announces auditions

Metropolitan Performing Arts Academy will hold auditions for its first all-youth production, Disney’s “My Son Pinocchio,” Thursday and Friday, Jan. 27 and 28 from 4 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, Jan. 29 from 10 to noon. The auditions will be held at Alki Middle School, 1800 N.W. Bliss Road, Vancouver. Callbacks will be Saturday afternoon.

The musical will be performed at the Washburn Performing Arts Center at Washougal High School Thursday through Saturday, March 31 to April 2.

Participants must bring sheet music and be prepared to sing 32 bars from a Broadway musical during the audition.

An accompanist will be provided. Children ages 8 to 18 may audition.
