On Feb. 5 Camas High School sent two Science Olympiad teams to the Aviation Invitational tournament in Des Moines, Wash.
They returned victorious with the first- and third-place trophies. Last year’s Washington state champion took fourth-place, and last year’s Oregon state champion came in sixth.
Twenty-four of the 30 CHS participants earned a medal in one or more events. The most notable were Marcus Bintz, Chris Schiller, Brett Steffens and Nicholas Lim, with four medals each, and Tim Grote, Chris Emmet and Chris Grote, with three medals each.
Science Olympiad is described as a “track meet for the scientific mind.” Fifteen students are on a team competing in 23 different events, ranging from battling robots to forensics to fossils.
The next CHS tournament is the Southwest Regional at Lower Columbia College in Longview, Wash., on Saturday, March 12.
