Drivers and pedestrians on state Route 500 in Camas will encounter some changes this month as crews pave the highway and improve sidewalks between Southeast Third and Southeast Seventh avenues.
On Monday, crews with Granite Construction Company of Vancouver began upgrading 12 sidewalk ramps to meet current Americans with Disabilities Act standards. Pedestrians should watch for sidewalk detours and avoid entering work areas.
Crews will remove old pavement and lay new asphalt on SR 500 in late August, which means drivers will encounter 20-minute delays and temporary detours for a few weeks.
Access to all residences and businesses will be provided during this work, which is expected to be complete in September.
This $975,000 Washington State Department of Transportation project is funded through federal and state highway improvement dollars.
