Bea, Wilson head to state tennis tourney

Washougal seniors Beyonce Bea and Paige Wilson have played volleyball, basketball and tennis together throughout their high school careers, and their chemistry helped them punch a ticket to the 2A state tennis tournament with a third-place finish in doubles at a 2A district tournament at the Vancouver Tennis Center on May 16-17.

Washougal shines on home track

Fishback Stadium was overflowing with track and field fans from all across the region as Washougal hosted a 2A district tournament for the first time in seven years on Friday, May 17.

Camas baseball racking up titles

Local fans have described the Camas High School baseball team as gutsy, resilient and clutch all season, and those traits came shining through for everyone to see at Art Wright Field in Kent as the 4A Greater St. Helens League champions came from behind to beat Puyallup 10-6 on Saturday, May 11, to capture the 4A District 3/4 championship.

For the second year in a row, Camas junior Kaylee Sugimoto has qualified to compete at the Women’s Junior Olympic National Championships on May 18, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Camas girls win district golf championship

Senior leadership was on full display at the 4A District 4 girls golf tournament at Tri-Mountain Golf Course in Ridgefield on May 6-7, with two Camas golfers on the top of the leaderboard.

Camas takes league title

It took 11 innings, but Camas junior Tyler Forner’s clutch single pushed in senior Shane Jamison for a 4-3 win over Battle Ground, allowing the Camas baseball team to take the 4A Greater St. Helens League title on April 29.

The last time the Washougal baseball team competed in the district tournament, head coach Zach Carter was an 8-year-old learning to hit fastballs in the East County Little League.

With track and field season in full swing, members of the Camas boys’ track and field team are gearing up for a run to repeat as state champions, a title it shared last year with three other 4A track and field teams.
