As we prepare to welcome 2023, it’s time to remember some of the top news events that helped shape life in the Camas-Washougal area this year. Following are the top 10 news headlines and issues that captured Post-Record readers’ attention in 2022:

Camas city, school leaders mull 2023 legislative priorities

Camas city and school district leaders are in the process of nailing down their list of legislative priorities they hope state legislators from the newly redrawn 17th District will fight for during the 2023 Washington State Legislative session.

Camas City Council OKs $350K skatepark bid

Two months after Camas officials “hit pause” on a long-awaited effort to revamp the city’s 20-year-old skatepark, Camas City Council officials have approved a $350,403 bid from Lee Contractors of Battle Ground to replace the park’s aging equipment with concrete elements that will cater to skateboarders of all levels and better withstand the natural elements.

Camas Council OKs 2023-24 budget

Following months of back-and-forth conversations about the city’s most pressing priorities and ways to fund them — including the passage of a new 2% utility tax on Camas’ water, sewer, garbage and wastewater utilities — the Camas City Council has unanimously approved Mayor Steve Hogan’s proposed $250,397,285 biennial budget for 2023-24.
