Camas teachers ratify contract, return to class

Members of the Camas Education Association, the union representing 460 educators in the Camas School District, have ratified a new two-year bargaining agreement and returned to the classroom following a strike that began Monday, Aug. 28, and ended Thursday, Sept. 7.

An annual tradition in Camas was marked by sadness this year, after the event’s organizer, Camas Gallery owner Marquita Call, died unexpectedly Aug. 29, three days before artists gathered in downtown Camas for the Camas Gallery’s popular “plein air” event.

Camas mill celebrates its 140th birthday

Camas First Friday visitors who ventured into the Georgia-Pacific paper mill’s interpretive center on Friday, Sept. 1, were treated to a birthday party — complete with cake and free goodies celebrating the mill’s 140th birthday.
