The position has been vacant since Monday, June 27, when Scott Higgins resigned following his appointment to serve as Camas mayor. Former Mayor Paul Dennis resigned as of May 31 to accept the position of director of the Camas-Washougal Economic Development Association. Applications for the Ward 3, Position 2 seat, available at www.ci.camas.wa.us, must be hand-delivered to Camas City Hall by Friday, July 15. Sunday afternoon, traffic slowed on Highway 14 as it approached a State Patrol vehicle parked on the shoulder of the road with emergency lights flashing. The trooper had made a traffic stop and was in the process of administering a field sobriety test to a woman suspected of driving under the influence.
With votes of approval by the Camas and Washougal City Councils last night, a functional consolidation effort between the two cities' fire departments will begin July 1. Camas unanimously approved the inter-local agreement for the trial effort. Washougal's council support was 5 to 2, with Michael Delavar and Dave Shoemaker voting against.
