Camas Fire Department engines blocked off Northeast Fourth Avenue, between Everett and Franklin streets on Sunday morning, as a remembrance event in commemoration of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks was held.

Authorities should pursue penalty against vessel owner

After months of work aimed at deconstruction and removal of the derelict ship the SS Davy Crockett, the last major piece of metal was hoisted out of the water on Thursday. It was a major milestone for the project that involved what was described as a "massive and carefully engineered" effort.

Thursday marked a "significant day" in the deconstruction of the SS Davy Crockett, as the final 60-foot long, 55,000 pound, rusty metal section of the derelict barge was slowly lifted from the waters of the Columbia River.

Adventure awaits Washougal couple in China

Tossing aside the notion that retirement is a time to slow down and take it easy, a Washougal couple is preparing to set out on what they anticipate will be the adventure of a lifetime. In a matter of days, Pat and Ernie Suggs will leave their comfortable home and close-knit family, which includes six daughters and seven grandchildren, to spend the next year as English teachers in China. At the moment, they know very little about what lies ahead. They have yet to be told the specific number of pupils who will be taking their classes, the English knowledge base of those students, or what teaching tools will be available.

A long time coming

Camas Mayor Scott Higgins recently asked City Administrator Lloyd Halverson at what point he targeted Fallen Leaf Lake Park as a place he wanted to see owned by and open to the public. His answer? "From day one."
