Body found in Little Washougal River

The body of a dead adult woman was found in the Little Washougal River today. According to a press release, at about 10:49 a.m. the Clark County Sheriff's Office and East County Fire Rescue were called to the 200 block of Northeast Blair Road.

Benefit will raise funds for local woman

Friends, family and fellow business owners of a local woman have banded together to put on a Feb. 26 concert and auction that aims to provide some financial relief as she recovers from a severe stroke.

Officials investigate attempted arson at CHS

Law enforcement officials are currently seeking information about an attempted arson at Camas High School. According to a press release from the Camas Police Department, on Saturday, Feb. 4, a subject attempted to set CHS, located at 26900 S.E. 15th St., on fire. The attempt was unsuccessful and only minimal damage was done to one area of a window.

WSDOT will activate a temporary stoplight at Sixth Avenue and Highway 14 on Wednesday. The move will provide safer, easier access to Camas and Washougal when crews shift traffic and close local intersections during the next phase of the $57 million project's construction.

Traffic flow change signals next phase of SR-14 project

On Wednesday construction crews on state Route 14 will switch on a new, temporary signal at Sixth Street in Washougal. According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, while the overall goal of the SR-14 Camas-Washougal widening and interchange project is to eliminate signals and improve traffic flow, the temporary signal at Sixth Street is necessary to provide safer, easier access to Camas and Washougal when crews shift traffic and close local intersections during stage 2 of construction.

Learn about ECFR at ‘Citizens Academy’

Local residents interested in learning more about how a fire district works are invited to attend the upcoming East County Fire and Rescue Citizens Academy. The free event will be held Saturday, March 17, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Fern Prairie Fire Station, 600 N.E. 267th Ave., Camas, next to Grove Field.

The Camas Post Office has been on the market since early 2010. According to Portland USPS spokesman Ron Anderson, talks are underway with an interested buyer.

USPS in negotiations with potential Post Office buyer

After being on the market for two years, the Camas Post Office may soon have a buyer. Ron Anderson, public relations coordinator for the Portland postal district, said on Friday that there is an interested buyer who is in active negotiations with representatives from the USPS real estate office in Denver. "They are in the process," Anderson said. "There's no promises that they will reach an agreement, but something is happening."

Fire chief recommends regional fire authority study

Following initial success in the trial merger between the Camas and Washougal fire departments, Camas Fire Chief Nick Swinhart is recommending the effort be extended and a formal exploration of the feasibility of establishing a regional fire authority be explored.
