C-Tran's Route 92 serves  Camas and Washougal. These two cities will now have their own representatives on the C-Tran Board of Directors. Previously, Camas and Washougal shared one seat. The Composition Review Committee voted on the issue last week. The newly configured group will begin meeting in January 2015.

C-Tran Board composition will change in January

Discussions regarding the composition of the C-Tran Board that began more than a year ago finally came to a conclusion on Nov. 18. As a result, both Camas and Washougal will now have their own director seats -- instead of sharing one.

ECFR could vote on 2015 budget tonight

The East County Fire and Rescue Commission is expected to vote tonight on its proposed 2015 budget. If approved as presented, three of its paid firefighters will lose their full-time jobs at the end of the year.

A slushy mixture of rain and snow began to accumulate in downtown Camas just prior to noon on Thursday. The winter storm warning originally issued by the National Weather Service has been downgraded to winter weather advisory. Freezing rain and sleet are expected to continue this evening, and in the higher elevations of Clark County there could be some snow this afternoon.

The snow and ice storm originally predicted to hit the area Thursday morning didn't pan out, but forecasters are now calling for sleet and freezing rain to continue into this afternoon and evening.

A dedication to service that lasts a lifetime

This morning, red, white and blue American flags in honor of Veterans Day, as well as black flags recognizing prisoners of war and those missing in action, lined Northeast Fourth Avenue in downtown Camas.

Gary Dowler, 74, served in the Navy, Army and the Air Force reserves. He spent 13 months in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot. Today, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4278 member is a hospice volunteer, which has him comforting veterans in the final days and weeks of their lives. "I don't regret any of it," he said of his military career. "I'd do it all again."

A commitment to serve

Gary Dowler joined the military 55 years ago to escape an unhappy home life. The experiences he had during the next decade -- both good and bad -- changed him forever, but even today he states emphatically that he "wouldn't change a thing."
