Washougal selects new superintendent

The Washougal School District has selected its new superintendent. According to a press release issued today, current Vancouver Public Schools Associate Superintendent of Teaching and Learing Michael Strommeis the the new superintendent for Washougal School District.

Tatiana Kolchanova has opened the Music & Arts Academy in Camas. The accomplished musician offers lessons in violin, viola and piano to people of all ages. The school will also offer classes in music theory, taught by cellist Elizabeth Dyson of Cascadia Composers.

A creative space

A woman who is a violinist, pianist and composer recently opened a studio in Camas. Tatiana Kolchanova, 50, who moved to the United States from Russia in 2007, will celebrate the opening of the Music & Arts Academy, 906 N.E. Third Ave., Saturday, April 4, beginning at 1 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Camas moves forward with roundabout design

The city of Camas will move forward with the preliminary design phase for a roundabout that will be located at the intersection of Northwest Sixth Avenue and Norwood Street.

Lauren Weber, 17, (pictured above) along with her parents, Dawn and Bob, and brother, Matthew, 19, live on five acres in the Livingston Mountain area of Camas. The family has five Bernese mountain dogs, including siblings, Link and Zee, 9, as well as Apple, 5, Gloree, 3 and Bruno, 2.  Berners are working dogs with origins in the farm areas of Switzerland. They are known for their calm nature and developing a strong attachment to their owners. Gloree (pictured above) has proven to be a great show dog who loves to perform and travel. "Gloree is really smart. She learns things really quickly," Lauren said.  "She also loves riding in cars. She gets mad when you don't bring her along. She took to (participating in dog shows) really well."

A Camas teen and her Bernese mountain dog recently competed in the Super Bowl of dog shows -- Westminster.
