David Zavortink has spent the past 21 years as the director of the Camas Public Library. He will retire Oct. 2, capping a 40 career that has spanned 40 years. Starting from young age, libraries have always been places where Zavortink has felt at home. ìI remember being allowed to walk to the library by myself,î he said. ìI remember the summer reading program, back in the old days when the librarian would sit down with you and say ìtell me about the book you read,î and youíd have discussion.î

Gold Rush Fire is 100 percent contained

The Gold Rush Fire located 12 miles northeast of Washougal is now 100 percent contained. According to DNR Spokesman Brian Poehlein, as of Monday there are 85 personnel on site.
