Panthers on a road to redemption

Washougal High School seniors Haley Briggs, Crystal Chase and Jolynn Wenick got the Centralia Tigers off their backs.

Bryant Elliott hangs on to Manny Mendez during the second round of the Pacific Coast Championships Friday, at Hudson's Bay High School. The Camas Papermaker beat his rival from Mountain View 5-4 and finished in fourth place. Talon Edmiston also took fourth place for Camas. Max Grimes and Rylan Thompson snagged seventh place, and Triston Groth earned eighth place.

Ladders and pitfalls

The Camas and Washougal high school wrestlers continued to climb ladders during the holidays.

Camas-Washougal wrestlers battle best of the west

Camas High School senior wrestlers Talon Edmiston and Bryant Elliott advanced to the championship round of their respective 32-man Best of the West brackets Dec. 20, in Pasco. Both Papermakers settled for silver medals to lead the team to seventh place in the 30-school scramble.

Daniel, Jordan and Ryan Anderson are leaving an impression on the Camas High School boys basketball program. Daniel coaches the junior varsity team, Jordan is a senior on the varsity team, and Ryan is a father to a 1-year-old daughter.

Camas slams Evergreen

A Plainsman had a night to remember, but seven Papermakers set a new school record for points in a game. The Camas boys basketball players and coaches hadn't forgotten about the game-winning buzzer beating over the shoulder basket Robert Franks made against them in the first round of the district tournament. The shot gained national attention. A video of it is available on Youtube.

Local Evergreen Storm Track Club runners Allison Warta, Tyler Dinh, Gabriella Warta and Rachel Blair (left to right) competed at the Junior Olympic National Cross Country Championships Dec. 13, in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Dinh and and Blair finished in the top 10 of their age divisions to become All-Americans.

All-American Storm

The synergy between the athletes and coaches in the Evergreen Storm Track Club is creating All-Americans. "We're kind of like a family," said Rachel Blair, a 13-year-old from Camas. "We spend so much time running together."
