Washougal woman plants native pollinator garden outside local animal shelter

When Margaret Gossage moved to Portland from Phoenix in 2013, she planted a native pollinator garden at her home that eventually earned certified status from the Backyard Habitat Program, a Portland-based noprofit that provides technical assistance, financial incentives, encouragement and recognition to people that want to create natural, low-maintenance gardens.

Catching On: Washougal man invites strangers to play catch

On the evening of Wednesday, March 2, John Scukanec grabbed a baseball, picked up his mitt and dragged his son, JR, out to the back yard of their Washougal home to play catch. It was 9:30 p.m., cold and wet, but Scukanec didn’t care. He had determined that he was going to play catch with somebody not only that day, but every day for the next calendar year.

Washougal art teacher, music school owner honored

The Washougal Arts and Culture Alliance (WACA) has named Jeffree White and Alice Yang as its artist and community member, respectively, of 2022 in recognition of their “significant” contributions to the Washougal art scene.
