Liam Tully performed in June, at the Camas Farmer's Market. The singer, songwriter and guitarist from Washougal, said his first musical love was guitar from the moment his dad introduced him to his first Chuck Berry record.

In pursuit of bigger musical dreams

Liam Tully's parents have told him he used to dance around on the fireplace mantle at the age of 3 or 4 with a plastic Mickey Mouse guitar and pretend to play "Johnny B. Goode." Tully then got involved in theater, until he said playing the guitar started to consume his life.

A Foods in Season employee packs King salmon from the Columbia River. Halibut, caviar, chanterelle mushrooms and truffle oil are among the items shipped from Building 15, in the Steigerwald Commerce Center, to restaurants throughout the U.S. The Port of Camas-Washougal and Foods in Season will be among the honorees at a "Top Projects" reception Wednesday.

Local buildings are among ‘Top Projects’

The first building in the Steigerwald Commerce Center is on the list of "Top Projects" of Southwest Washington, named by the Vancouver Business Journal. The 21,600 square foot structure, at 4125 S. Lincoln St., Washougal, has housed Foods in Season -- a distributor of seafood, caviar, specialty meats, mushrooms and truffles -- since April. Team Construction, LLC, of Vancouver, was the general contractor for the $2.167 million project.

The building at 56 S. First St., Washougal, that had been the proposed Black Pearl restaurant, is among the available properties listed on the Camas-Washougal Economic Development Association website. Local brokers and property owners are invited to add their commercial or industrial property information to the website, www.cweda.org, by requesting access through a link found on the properties page.

CWEDA website features property listings

The new Camas-Washougal Economic Development Association website includes listings of local buildings that are available to lease or purchase. The goal is to provide information to companies considering locating in the C-W area.

Larry Kennedy, of Washougal, has created a scale model railroad town in his home. It is expected to be among the stops available for attendees of the National Model Railroad Association convention, to be held in August 2015, in Portland.

Living on a grand scale

A Washougal man estimates he has invested approximately 6,000 hours in creating a scale model railroad town in his home. Larry Kennedy said he has about 5,000 hours of work left, before the project is completed. "It is a work in progress," he said.

Washougal mayor objects to retail marijuana applicant

Washougal Mayor Sean Guard is concerned the opening of a retail recreational marijuana business, operated by the owner of Mary Jane's House of Glass, could cause an increase in service calls by police. In a letter to the Washington State Liquor Control Board license division, Guard said from August 2012 to June 3, this year, the Washougal Police Department had 23 calls for service at Mary Jane's, 1825 "E" St.

A goat grazes within a storm water retention area in Washougal. Sixteen goats were rented by the Krause Meadows Homeowners Association, to eat a variety of plant life. "This is not something anyone in the subdivision had seen done before," said Association President Holly Ruth.

An environmentally friendly alternative

A homeowners association in Washougal implemented a unique method to clear an overgrown storm water retention area. Sixteen goats were rented July 1-3, for a flat rate of $600, to eat greenery near 39th and "P" streets, in the Krause Meadows neighborhood.

Camas council mulls purchase of LaCamas Swim & Sport

Several Camas City Council members are not ready to commit to the purchase of LaCamas Swim & Sport. During yesterday's workshop, Lauren Livingston, president of The Sports Management Group, said the membership billing units originally reported by the club included the Silver Sneakers and Silver Fit program participants. The senior citizens are billed a per class fee, but they do not pay a membership fee.

Stephanie Meinhold (left), a licensed acupuncturist, recently hired receptionist Ashley Upson (right), to work in the new location of Camas Acupuncture & Nutrition. Meinhold has renamed her Washougal Acupuncture & Herbs, LLC, practice. With the additional space in the new office, she hopes to have classes on topics such as nutrition, Lyme disease and meal ideas for diabetics.

Acupuncturist heads west to downtown Camas

A licensed acupuncturist has relocated her practice from Washougal to Camas. Stephanie Meinhold owned Washougal Acupuncture & Herbs, LLC, in the Evergreen Marketplace at 3307 Evergreen Way, Ste. 603, before she moved to 405 N.E. Sixth Ave. "I moved my practice, due to much lower overhead in Camas and a lack of affordable professional space in Washougal," she said.
