Washougal Council votes to allow invocations

After lengthy discussions and a few amendments, the Washougal City Council approved a resolution that provides for invocations just prior to council meetings.

The former owner of a food cart in Portland has opened a restaurant in Camas. James Culp operates Local Girls Hawaiian Shave Ice & Grill, with a lot of help from his family.

Those who attend the East County Fire and Rescue Sept. 11 ceremonies will have the opportunity to view the granite memorial that signifies the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. The memorial, which was dedicated in 2013, includes the names of the 343 firefighters who died that day, as well as the names of Clark County firefighters who have died in the line of duty during the past several years.

Agencies plan Sept. 11 ceremonies

Ceremonies will be held in the Camas-Washougal area, to remember the lives of firefighters, first responders and others who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Merrie Thompson (right) has volunteered at the Washougal Community Library for 10 years. She serves as the book sale chairman for the Friends of the Library. "I have made new friends, stayed in contact with old friends and made my life fuller by helping others through volunteering," said Thompson, 67. "Find something you like to do and share it with others. I love books, so I started with the library." Her husband Glenn, 69 (not pictured), has volunteered at the library for five years.

Camas will not purchase LaCamas Swim & Sport

After hearing a lot of discussions and questions during the Camas City Council workshop and meeting Monday, Mayor Scott Higgins concluded that the consensus among a majority of council members was that they did not want to move forward with the purchase of LaCamas Swim & Sport.
