Psychologist relocates in downtown Washougal area

The first tenant of Washougal Town Square has left the building, but her new office is only a block and a half away from it. Friday was Martha Martin's first day in the new space at 82 Washougal River Road, Ste. 110.

If Nell Warren and Greg Misarti have a plan amendment approved by the Columbia Gorge Commission, they would eventually like to have three artists living on their property and using this refurbished 1895 barn for studio space.

Spencer, of Washougal, was a decorated Army veteran who served two tours in Vietnam. "It is our way of honoring and thanking Master Sgt. Spencer for the self-sacrifices he made by serving our country," said Lynn Vaughn, a Southwest Washington ride captain. "If it were not for men and women such as he, there would be no United States of America."

Honoring patriotic service

As local residents filled up their grocery carts and gas tanks at the Camas Safeway, Friday in preparation for the Fourth of July holiday weekend, there were numerous motorcyclists gathering nearby to honor a Vietnam veteran. Members of the Patriot Guard Riders assembled in the Safeway parking lot, prior to the memorial service for Master Sgt. Ed Spencer, 72, of Washougal. Spencer received four Bronze Stars, two Purple Hearts and one Silver Star during his 22 years in the Army. That included two tours and hand-to-hand combat in Vietnam.

Washougal council to vote on agreement with firefighters

A potential agreement with Washougal firefighters will result in shifts starting 30 minutes earlier and pay increases when members are involved in advanced life support. Currently, Washougal firefighters work 24-hour shifts, starting at 7:30 a.m. Camas firefighters start at 7 a.m. The memorandum of understanding between Washougal and International Association of Firefighters Local 2444 provides for a 1.5 percent pay increase for Washougal captains and firefighters when they are on assignment as advanced life support team members and supervisors. The memorandum allows for Washougal firefighters to be assigned to Camas stations and to staff an ambulance. It also provides for the possibility that a Washougal firefighter could serve as a Camas battalion chief.

Lila Trammell, of Camas, creates cards for veterans at the Barnes nursing home and hospice center in Vancouver. She has been selected as Camas Days Senior Royalty. Trammell will celebrate her 95th birthday on July 12, one day before her coronation.

Service-minded senior is honored

A woman who has lived in Camas for more than 80 years has been chosen to serve on the Camas Days Royal Court. Lila Trammell, 94, was nominated by her niece Roxanne Jones, of Washougal. "I was kind of shocked," Trammell said. She is a 1935 graduate of Camas High School who has worked at several locations, including the Camas paper mill.

Independence Day celebration will be held in Washougal

Live music from the 50s, 60s and 70s, as well as an assortment of food, will be available at the Fourth of July celebration at Marina Park. The Port of Camas-Washougal Independence Day event, presented in partnership with the city of Washougal, will be free and open to the public. Food vendors will begin serving gyros, baklava, kettle corn and shave ice at 4 p.m. The Camas Lions will host a beer/wine garden and sell hamburgers, cheeseburgers, beef hot dogs/polish dogs and grilled garlic onions.
