Makoa was the star pupil during a puppy training class recently held at Katie High's residence. High offers four weeks of classes for puppies 5 months old and younger. Obedience training is available for dogs older than 5 months.

High Expectations

Katie High's life has gone to the dogs, and she could not be any happier about it. High, of Camas, has been training puppies and adult dogs for three years, but she has been around canines most of her life. High, 34, moved to Camas at the age of 4. Her family lived on the west end of Lacamas lake, and she later attended Mountain View High School. During High's childhood, she grew up with hunting breed dogs -- Labrador retrievers and vizslas. "Ruby," a German shorthaired pointer, was her first personal dog.

Port receives funds to develop Hambleton cleanup plan

The Port of Camas-Washougal has received a $200,000 grant that could lead to the cleanup of the former Hambleton Lumber Company site. Port Executive Director David Ripp announced receipt of the grant from the Washington Department of Ecology during the July 5 port commission meeting. Commissioners are expected to approve a professional services agreement with Maul, Foster and Alongi July 19. The consulting firm would analyze the site and determine a cleanup plan. According to Ripp, the port is exploring the opportunity to acquire, cleanup and redevelop property along the waterfront that extends east of its existing marina and connects to port-owned property at Sixth Street in Washougal.

Neder’s Auto Service closes up shop

A long standing automotive business that specialized in oil changes has closed, while its neighbor continues to serve homemade cinnamon rolls and biscuits and gravy. The owner of Neder's Service Gary Lively said he closed it because of the economy, the construction on "E" Street and the price of petroleum products.
