Washougal Council approves 2012 budget

The City of Washougal budget for 2012 includes some funding for the West Columbia Gorge Humane Society, through payments for dog impounding services.

Judge denies Washougal mayor’s request

Cowlitz County District Court Judge Ed Putka has denied a motion to disqualify that county's prosecuting attorney's office from trying the case of Washougal Mayor Sean Guard.

The instructors at Bead Paradise teach classes including basic beading and how to make tennis bracelets, "Capture a Stone" pendants and ornament covers. A community-minded couple has teamed up with several local instructors to generate excitement for creating jewelry and crafts by hand. Shane and Desiree Woodward have opened Bead Paradise, in downtown Camas. "I am very focused on being a family friendly business and involved in the community," Shane Woodward said. He said Desiree fell in love with downtown Camas after she attended "Girls Night Out," a fund raiser for cancer charities, in May.

Washougal earns another clean audit

City of Washougal leaders and staff have received another dose of good news from the State Auditor's Office. An accountability audit report, released Monday morning, indicates the city complied with state laws and regulations in the areas of utility billing and receipting, impact fees, disbursements, payroll and financial condition during 2010.

Port of Camas-Washougal Project Manager Larry Connolly was welcomed back to work by his co-workers in late October. He received a double lung transplant in July, at Stanford Hospital and Clinics, in Palo Alto, Calif.

Port employee enjoys a second chance at life

Larry Connolly plans to celebrate two birthdays a year, from now on. They will include his original date of birth in December as well as July 12 -- the date he received a double lung transplant. Connolly, 58, recently returned to work as project manager for the Port of Camas-Washougal -- much to the delight of his coworkers. "It's awesome," said Port Executive Director David Ripp. "It's so amazing to see how much he has changed and to see a positive outlook through him as well. Modern medicine is amazing." Port Office Assistant Jennifer Rilatos said she could not be happier about Connolly's "swift return."

Wheels turn at waterfront workshop

Some people who showed up at an open house had plenty to say regarding the revitalization of the former Hambleton Lumber Company site and additional waterfront properties. More than 50 individuals, as well as port commissioners and staff, attended the planning workshop Wednesday night.

Washougal budget adds new police officer

The hiring of a new officer for the Washougal Police Department is expected to reduce the number of calls that each officer responds to. So far this year, there have been 16,545 calls. With 18 officers, that averages out to be 919 calls per officer, per year.
