The Joe Brown Gymnasium turned into a house of horrors for the Washougal High School basketball teams Monday.
After winning its first three games of the season, the Washougal girls let an eight-point lead at halftime slip away and lost to Heritage 41-40.
The Panther boys also struggled from the field and the foul line, and lost to the Timberwolves 41-36.
Washougal broke out of its shooting slump in the third quarter, and outscored Heritage 13-4 to get within three points of the lead. The Timberwolves then scored seven in a row to go back up by 10.
The Panthers scratched and clawed to within one point in the fourth quarter. Dan Davis nailed a 3-pointer, Curtis Crosby netted a lay-up and a foul shot for a three-point play. He then stole the ball and passed it to Brody Oberg on a fast break for two more points.
