The 13-year-old all-stars from Camas-Washougal Babe Ruth brought home a victory and a lifetime of memories from the Babe Ruth World Series in Jamestown, New York.
“Not only did we make it to the World Series, we also won a World Series game,” said manager Bob Gibbs. “I’m just really proud of these kids. They represented Camas-Washougal Babe Ruth perfectly. This whole experience is something they are never going to forget.”
Camas-Washougal scored five runs in the sixth inning to defeat Tallahassee-Leon, Florida 10-6 Aug. 18. Gideon Malychewski smacked a 2-run double with the bases loaded to break a 5-5 tie. He drove in three runs on two hits and scored three times on four stolen bases.
Kolby Broadbent knocked in two runs on three hits. Riley Sinclair and Evan Stott had two hits each and an RBI. Kolton Andrews added an RBI.
Beau Kearsey earned the victory on the mound. He gave up an unearned run, a hit and two walks in 2.2 innings pitched.
