ESD 112 art show will open this week

Work by local youth is on display in Vancouver

A Washougal teen is among the student artists from throughout Southwest Washington who will be recognized for their outstanding artwork at the 2015 Southwest Washington Regional High School Art Show, sponsored and hosted by Educational Service District 112.

Now in its 42nd year, the art show is one of the few opportunities for area art students to receive recognition and exposure for their work.

The art show received 240 entries this year from high school students from throughout the six-county region of Southwest Washington.

The artwork is on display at ESD 112, 2500 N.E. 65th Ave., in Vancouver, through March 31.

Washougal High School student Maya Breasler, who earned a regional award for her piece titled “Sunrise,” is among the artwork on display.

An opening reception and ceremony presentation will take place Wednesday, March 18, from 5 to 7 p.m., at ESD 112. The Gallery will open at 5 p.m. and the awards program begins at 6 p.m.

Eighteen pieces will receive regional awards and will compete against entries from around Washington State in the annual State Superintendent of Public Instruction Art Show in Olympia in April.

Additionally, new this year, Central Washington University awarded four outstanding art pieces with CWU Scholarship Awards, three with $1,000 scholarships and one with a $2,000 scholarship award.
