Locals land on CWU fall honor roll

Several local students made the honor roll at Central Washington University.

To be named to the honor roll, students must earn at least a 3.5 GPA and take at least 12 graded credits.

The students are Brendon Scott Brown, Brian James Connolly and Brittney Renee Cutter of Washougal; and Taylor Lee Boteilho, Amanda Gayle Felipe, Stephen Michael Heil, Courtney Makayla Williams and Mychal Delmar Hornbeck.

Webberly named to Graceland University honors list

Austin Webberly has been named to the fall honor’s list at Graceland University in Lamaoni, Iowa.

Graceland University students with a perfect 4.0 grade point average are named to the president’s list. Students with a GPA between 3.65 and 3.99 are named to the honors list.

C-W residents make OSU honor roll

Oliva M. Lovell of Camas and MacKenzie Pfeifer of Washougal have been named to the fall term honor roll at Oregon State University.

To be on the honor roll, students must take at least 12 graded hours of course work and earn a 3.5 or higher GPA.

‘A Taste of Scotland’ to raise scholarship funds at Clark College

On Thursday, Jan. 15, local diners and literature lovers can take part in the tradition when Clark College and Mill Creek Pub partner to present “A Taste of Scotland: Ode to the Haggis.”

Guests will be served a traditional Scottish supper, including an authentic haggis that will be ceremonially marched into the venue with a bagpipe procession. Entertainment will include recitations of Robert Burns’ poetry. Guests can also participate in silent and live auctions emceed by Alexander “Sandy” McKenzie.

The event will raise scholarship money for students from Scotland to attend Clark College. Festivities will begin with a 5:30 p.m. social hour. The program will start at 6 p.m. and is being held at the Clark College Columbia Tech Center, 18700 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd.

Tickets are $100 each. Tables of six are available for $600, and two tables of six can be reserved for $1,000.

Event will help with filling out FAFSA

Clark College and Washington State University Vancouver will again team up to host College Goal Washington, a free annual event that helps students and families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the form required to apply for federal financial assistance for higher education.

The event will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24.

New this year, the event will also cover the Washington Application for State Financial Aid, the new form created through Washington’s Real HOPE Act that allows certain low-income, non-citizen students to apply for state financial aid.

Spanish and Russian interpreters will be available.

“Because the law was passed recently, there is confusion and uncertainty about how it works and who is eligible to apply,” said Karen Driscoll, director of financial aid at Clark College. “We are committed to helping our community’s students and their families understand their financial aid options.”

The event is open to all students and families, no matter where a student plans to go to school. Students and parents are encouraged to attend together.

Typically, the FAFSA form takes about 45 minutes to complete.

In addition to computer labs for completing the FAFSA, College Goal Washington will offer a brief welcome presentation and workshops. Clark College is located at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way.

Students named to George Fox dean’s list

Several Camas and Washougal students were named to the dean’s list at George Fox University for the fall 2014 semester.

To be named to the list, students must earn at least a 3.5 or higher GPA.

Following is a list of local students who earned the distinction: Paige Bergstrom, Blake Christopher, Emily Hoke, Jessamine Miller and Sierra Robertson and Katelin Wight of Camas; and Stephen Lauser and Joslynn Costa of Washougal.

Warner Pacific College announces dean’s list

Several local Warner Pacific College students were named to the fall dean’s list. To qualify, students must be enrolled full-time and earn at least a 3.5 GPA.

They include Floria Arjomand, Cali Lamb, Jeannette Lopez, Otari Oniashvili, Erik Peterson and Jessica Swink of Camas; and Margaret Bah, Danielle Pettyjohn, Aaron Reyes and Elizabeth Vonau of Washougal.
