Local resident named to dean’s list

Connor O’Neill of Washougal was named to the dean’s list at William Jewell College for the 2014 fall semester.

To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must earn at least a 3.5 GPA while taking at least 14 semester hours.

William Jewell College is located in Kansas City, Mo.

WSU Vancouver hosts financial aid workshop

Washington State University Vancouver will host a “Scholarships 101” information night for students interested in learning how scholarships can help pay for college.

The workshop will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 7 in the Dengerink Administration Building, Room 110. This event is free and open to the public.

Guests will learn where to find scholarships, how to write award-winning essays and get tips from prior award winners.

EOU announces the fall term dean’s list

Michelle Stoller and Stefani Sorensen of Camas have been named to the dean’s list at Eastern Oregon University. Students must earn at least a 3.5 GPA and take at least 12 hours of graded coursework to qualify for the list.

Eastern Oregon University is located in La Grande.

Preschool childfind screening set

The Camas School District will host a free screening for children ages 3 to 5 years old residing within the Camas School District boundaries on Wednesday.

The screening tests children in hearing, vision, speech, concepts and motor development. It lasts approximately one hour. Results are confidential and shared with parents only.

Running Start information night sessions set

High school sophomores and juniors can learn how to take the next step in their education by attending one of two optional Running Start Information Night sessions at Clark College.

The identical sessions will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 and Wednesday, Feb. 11, in the Clark College gymnasium, 1933 Fort Vancouver Way.

Running Start allows eligible juniors and seniors to earn college credit while they fulfill their high school graduation requirements. Students attend Clark classes along with “regular” college students. They can choose from a full range of academic and professional/technical courses as long as they meet the criteria and the classes are college-level.

The program can significantly reduce the cost of a college degree. Some Running Start students earn their associate degree at the same time that they earn their high school diploma. Students can participate part-time or full-time in Running Start. Fees are subject to change by the Washington State Legislature. Fee waivers and limited textbook assistance are available for those demonstrating financial need.

Individuals who need a disability accommodation to fully participate in information night sessions are asked to call 992-2314.

Camas residents are named to ASU dean’s list

Kaia Evans and Rachel Fadlovich of Camas were named to the fall 2014 dean’s list at Arizona State University. To be named to the list, students must earn at least 3.5 or higher GPA and take at least 12 graded credit hours.

YouthBuild information nights are this month

Clark County residents, ages 17-24 who do not have a high school diploma, and are interested in obtaining one or their GED and job-related skills, are invited to attend a YouthBuild information session to learn more about the program.

Information sessions will be held Thursday, Jan. 8, 15 and 20 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Partners in Careers, 3210 N.E. 52nd St., Vancouver.

To participate in YouthBuild, an individual must be: a Clark County resident who has dropped out of high school, is in need of a diploma or GED, and is interested in gaining job skills and experience.

Those enrolled in YouthBuild will have the opportunity to obtain their GED or high school diploma, gain two nationally-recognized construction certifications, participate in building a house for a family in need, and receive additional services, including job, college and career preparation.
