Student of the month selected

Curtis Hamilton has been selected as the student of the month at Excelsior High School.

Excelsior staff enjoys working with Hamilton and noted he often goes “above and beyond” academic expectations, according to a press release.

“As a senior, Curtis is a great example to the other students,” the release said.

Girls sought for coding program

As of Dec. 2, kids can go to www.madewithcode.com and use blockley, an introductory programming language, to code Christmas lights, a snowflake, or even a yeti.

If they choose to code lights, their work will be displayed on Washington state’s designated tree throughout the month of December.

Made with Code is a Google initiative designed to show girls the fun and creative things they can do with computer science, according to a press release.

“Google hopes to have hundreds of thousands of girls participate in the program, hopefully many from Washington state,” the release stated.

Substance abuse prevention workshop set

The Put Youth First: Substance Abuse Prevention Tools workshop will take place from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10 at Education Service District 112, 2500 N.E. 65th Ave., Vancouver.

This event is designed for community leaders and members interested in learning more about how to partner with the substance abuse prevention coalitions in Clark County.

Teen Read Cafe discussion group to meet Tuesday

“Teen Read,” a book discussion group for those in seventh grade and older will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16 at the Camas Public Library, 625 N.E. Fourth Ave.

The book to be discussed is “Memory Boy,” by Will Weaver.

Those who want to participate should sign out a copy of the book prior to the meeting and read it.

All-ages caroling set at Camas Public Library

The Camas Public Library is hosting an all-ages, all-welcome indoor caroling sing-a-long at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17. Children, parents, grandparents and all others are invited.

There will be free hot apple cider and song booklets provided. The library is located at 625 N.E. Fourth Ave.
