Camas rises to the top at Prairie Invitational

The Camas High School boys golf team defeated Union by two strokes for the second time in three days. The Papermakers also rose above 14 other schools to win the Prairie Invitational Wednesday, at The Cedars on Salmon Creek.

“It’s nice to beat Union again by two, especially after beating them by two in our home match,” said senior Brett Ball.

“We’re proving our point,” added teammate Brian Humphreys.

Humphreys shot the best round of the tournament. The Papermaker dropped five birdies into the cup and finished with a 4-under par score of 67 strokes.

Eddie Abellar earned second place for Union and Ben Gruher followed in fourth place. Both Titans turned in even par rounds of 71.

Chayce Heiberg posted the second best score for Camas with a 76. Levi Holscher added a 78, Ball rolled in a 79. The Papermakers finished with a combined score of 300 strokes.

“I’m just happy that I shot way below my average,” Heiberg said. “I’m thankful that I could perform and help my team.”

The day before the Prairie Invitational, Camas beat Battle Ground 149-184 at Cedars.

Humphreys led the way with a 34, Ball added a 36, Heiberg earned a 37 and Holscher shot a 42.

This was the lowest match score of the season for the Papermakers.
