Attending the homecoming dance is a rite of passage for most high school girls.

However, the ability to go shopping for a dress can sometimes be an obstacle for those in foster care.

Fallout Ministries, a Washougal-based organization, is asking for donations of gently used prom dresses, cocktail dresses, evening gowns and bridesmaid dresses in all sizes and styles to help the girls have a magical night to remember. A dress shopping event will take place Oct. 12 and be open to all girls in a home, whether biological or foster.

“It has long been a dream of ours to see full family care offered to the generous families that have opened their hearts and their homes to kids in need,” said Fallout Ministries Co-Director Leandra Davidson. “Our belief is the more we can care for the entire family, the more permanent homes we can create.”

Davidson founded the non-profit organization with friend Cyndi Haag. The mission is to promote awareness of the need for adoptive homes, provide a safe neutral environment for prospective adoptive families to meet children and provide ongoing support for adoptive families to ensure permanent placement.

“If someone you know has a bridesmaid dress, stylish prom dress or cocktail dress they never wear, why not point them in our direction and bless a child?” said Davidson.

Dresses will be accepted until Sunday, Oct. 5, at Calvary Community Church, 2717 N.E. Third Ave., Camas, between the hours of 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, as well as before and after the 10 a.m. Sunday service.
