Camas kindergartener brought bullets on bus

A school bus was searched following a report of a Camas kindergarten student carrying bullets in a backpack.

At about 4 p.m. on Tuesday, the driver of a school bus on a Prune Hill Elementary route was alerted by a student that a bullet was discovered. The driver contacted transportation dispatch and pulled the bus over to a stop as soon as it was safe to do so, according to a press release from the Camas School District.

The bullet was brought to the driver and the reporting student indicated who brought it. The driver then searched the backpack of the suspected student and two additional bullets were found. The bus was searched and a fourth bullet was discovered on the floor of the vehicle.

No threats were made by the student and the bullets were removed from the bus by the transportation director.

After receiving direction from administration, the driver resumed the route and delivered students to their appropriate bus stops.

“The driver handled the incident swiftly and appropriately,” the release stated. “The incident was immediately reported to district officials and the parents of the offending student.”

In addition, the district’s School Resource Officer was notified of the incident. According to School District policy, student discipline cannot be disclosed to the public.
