Skills Center to host barbecue dinner

The Skills Center Restaurant Management and Culinary Arts students are hosting an open-to-the-public barbecue on Friday, April 26 at 6:30 p.m., in the Skills Center Restaurant, 12200 N.E. 28th St. in Vancouver.

The menu features Andrew’s Famous Barbecue ribs, country-fried chicken, corn bread, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, fruit, vegetable trays with dip, caramel apple pie and strawberry shortcake.

BPA offers $20,000 in schools grants

The Bonneville Power Administration is offering $20,000 in science and energy education grants to nonprofit organizations, schools and others in support of work to educate students in kindergarten through 12th grade about the energy systems of the Pacific Northwest.

The goal of the program is to advance student understanding, awareness and interest in the issues and science involved in energy generation and transmission in the region.

A total of $20,000 will be awarded. BPA anticipates that there will be five to 10 grants ranging from $500 to $5,000. For more information, visit www.bpa.gov/goto/Education.

Local students land on honor roll

Camas and Washogual residents have been named to the honor roll at Oregon State University for winter term 2013. To be named to the honor roll, students must earn at least a 3.5 GPA.

The students are Shalese A. Mosley, Brittney N. Oljar, Ashlyn K. Price and Mark A. Price of Camas; and Macy J. Leaptrott of Washougal.

Milojevic honored at reception

Nathan Milojevic of Washougal was recognized for his superior grades by the University of Colorado recently.

He was one of nearly 500 freshmen students recognized at the First-years Achieving Marks of Excellence reception in February for earning a 3.25 or higher GPA during his first semester.

Community Education preschool registration open

The Washougal School District’s Community Education Preschool registration is open for the 2013-14 school year.

Preschools are located at each elementary school site: Cape Horn-Skye, Gause and Hathaway. Students ages 3 to 5 and fully potty-trained are served in morning and afternoon sessions two or four days per week.

Washington State early learning and development guidelines are used as the foundation for curriculum, with kindergarten readiness, as a focus.

Kindergarten registration open

Gause Elmentary School, 1100 34th St., will be accepting kindergarten registrations Monday through Friday at the office from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Those wanting to register their incoming kindergartener will need to bring a birth certificate and immunization records.
