CSD approves Cardon Field replacement

The Camas School Board unanimously approved $397,000 to replace the aging turf at Camas High School’s Cardon Field.

At 10 years old, the turf is at the end of its lifespan, according to Bryan McGeachy, operations director.

“The generation of turf we used for the field is good up to eight years, and we’re two over now,” he said.

The bid was awarded to Sprinturf, LLC, a Pennsylvania based company. It includes the base price of $337,445, plus 8.4 percent in taxes and 8 percent contingency/administrative costs.

“It’s a big commitment financially, but needs to be replaced,” said board member Doug Quinn.

Construction is expected to begin in late June and take approximately two months. It will wrap up before the football season begins in late August.

School sports teams, physical education classes and the community regularly use the field, though community use has been suspended due to the condition of the current turf.

The replacement will be paid for out of the general fund.
