CHS musicians head to state
The Papermakers earned accolades at a recent music competition.
Isaac Hodapp and Haley Sawyer will represent Camas High School at the state competition next month.
During a recent district solo and ensemble festival, the two won their respective divisions.
Hodapp, a freshman, will compete in the trumpet solo category, while Sawyer, a senior, fared well in the (vocal) soprano category. They will represent the Lower Columbia River Music Educators Association division.
More than 50 vocalists and soloists competed in the district contest, held Feb. 23. There are 22 districts statewide.
Senior Jason Hamann was the first alternate in the baritone category.
Senior Erica Abrahamsen was selected as the first alternate in the alto saxophone solo division, as was junior Jonathan Liao in the piano solo category. Junior Amanda Felipe was chosen as second alternate in the flute solo division
“These are all highly competitive categories,” said Richard Mancini, band director. “We are very proud of their achievements.”
