The Panther boys wrestling team became 2A sub-regional champions Saturday, at Washougal High School.

The road to the Tacoma Dome for 4A and 2A Greater St. Helens League wrestlers began in Camas and Washougal Saturday.

Eight finalists and four champions helped the Panther boys sink their teeth into a 2A sub-regional championship trophy, at Washougal High School.

Jesse Reagan, Garrett Duey, Tanner Baldwin and Stephen Camden won their respective brackets, while Wyatt Eakins, Roger Polanco, Josh Economides and Jacob Brown settled for second place.

One more Panther will join these eight in the 2A regional tournament next weekend, in Bremerton. Zach Oster defeated Christian Rivera-Lopez of Mark Morris in a seeding match that followed the championship round. Although Rivera-Lopez earned second place in the 106-pound bracket, he did wrestle Oster. Therefore, a wrestle-off between the two occurred and Oster won 4-3.

Tye Lommasson was the only Papermaker out of five to win a championship medal from the 4A Southwest Washington district tournament, at Camas High School. Bryant Elliott, Austin Miller, Dakota Safford and Vince Huber finished in second place.

Andrew Duffy, Talon Edmiston and Wesley Gilge grabbed third place in their brackets. These eight Papermakers are on their way to the 4A regional tournament next weekend, at Heritage High School.

The Washougal girls wrestling team earned second place at the girls sub-regional tournament Saturday, at Kalama High School.

Tara Duey, Sara Sanchez, Erin Locke and Katelyn Purkeypyle snagged championship medals for the Panthers. Haven Camden and Jessica Biron grabbed second place, Jessica Eakins took third and Yaneli Martinez finished in fourth. Camas senior Taryn Lommasson claimed second place, and Shauna Ahern and Erin Tully each earned fifth place.

These girls are all on their way to the regional tournament next weekend, at Battle Ground High School.

See you on the sidelines.
