On the sidelines: Big cats of Clark County

When it comes to girls wrestling, the Washougal Panthers are still the big cats in Clark County.

The defending 2012 county champions beat 15 other schools to stand on the top of the mountain again Saturday, at Skyview High School. Washougal racked up 107 points and Battle Ground followed in second place with 85 points.

Jessica Eakins, Sara Sanchez and Erin Locke were crowned individual Clark County champions for the Panthers. Yaneli Marinez and Katelyn Purkeypyle finished in second place. Tara Duey and Romney Kellogg took third place, and Emily Alder-Storm earned fourth place.

With five girls able to wrestle in the county tournament, Camas became a factor in the team standings for the first time in school history. Taryn Lommasson and Erin Tully earned championship medals, Jenna Rae Wilson took third place and Katie Lindstrom claimed fourth place. The Papermakers clinched third place as a team with 65.5 points.

Vince Huber became a county champion for the Camas boys. He synched up Union’s Cody Gromes and held on for a 7-6 victory.

Austin Miller also wrestled in the championship finals for the Papermakers, but had to settle for second place. Bryant Elliott, Andrew Duffy and Wes Gilge grabbed fifth-place medals, and Gavin Grable, Noah Shannon and Dakota Safford finished in sixth place.

Jesse Reagan earned third place for Washougal, and Josh Economides took sixth-place.
