Dr. Susan Hughes co-founded a non-profit

A local physician who owns Transformations Spa MD has been recognized for distinguishing herself through service to family medicine.

Dr. Susan Hughes, of Camas, is one of three Washington medical doctors to receive the 2012 Degree of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

The honor recognizes Hughes for the advancement of health care, her extensive continuing medical education and participation in public service programs outside her medical practice.

Hughes is a founding partner of Family Wellness Center. Her other accomplishments include founding BRIDGES NW, a 501 (c) 3, with her husband Robert, in 2011.

The organization assists children and adults who are affected by Sensory Processing Disorder and may have coordination issues, academic or social concerns or be gifted in some aspects to the detriment of other areas.

The mission of the nonprofit is to create an informal network of professionals — including physical/occupational/speech therapists, educators and physicians — to exchange information about sensory processing disorder, examine new technologies and generate grants and funding to bring integrated listening systems to the community. One of the program’s focuses is to improve academic and social success in elementary students.
