Sullivan graduates from Juilliard

Macy Elizabeth Sullivan of Camas graduated with a bachelor of fine arts degree in dance from The Juilliard School in New York City.

During the 107th commencement ceremony, she was presented with the John Erskine Prize for an exceptional level of scholastic and artistic achievement, given to a undergraduate student in dance, drama or music.

Sullivan was also presented with the Martha Hill Prize for outstanding achievement and leadership in dance.

Sullivan currently resides in Manhattan, has signed her first professional contract, and will continue her choreographic and performance pursuits there.

She is a 2008 Camas High School graduate and valedictorian.

Volunteers needed for Citizens Advisory Committee

In preparation for the new school year, the Camas School District is seeking volunteers to serve on its Citizens Advisory Committee.

CAC consists of 18-25 school district patrons who advise school administrators and board members on a variety of issues.

Meetings are held the first Monday of each month during the school year, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Interested citizens are encouraged to attend the next CAC meeting on Oct. 1, at the J.D. Zellerbach Administration Center, 841 N.E. 22nd Ave., Camas, in the Dennison Board Room, at 5:30 p.m.

CAC applications can be completed at the meeting, online at www.camas.wednet.edu or by contacting Lynette Marshall at 833-5412.

All completed applications should be returned to the Camas School District Administration Center by no later than Friday, Sept. 21, and will be forwarded to the School Board for appointment.

Camas Roots Garden plans work party

Youth and adult volunteers are invited to participate in a garden work party at the Camas Roots Garden Saturday, Sept. 8 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Volunteers will help with weeding, mulching and harvesting.

Volunteers are welcome to come for all or part of the morning. All tools are provided. Refreshments will be served.

Camas Roots is a partnership between the Camas School District and community volunteers, including youth from the Clark County Juvenile Justice Restorative Community Service Program. Its mission is to be a, “living learning experience that involves students in environmental stewardship, service learning, and building community connections.”

Produce from the garden is donated to the Interfaith Treasure House food bank.

The garden is located just west of the JD Zellerbach Administration Center, 841 N.E. 22nd Ave.

CHS alum earns scholarship

Allyson Dunlap, 29, has been awarded a Pathology Associates Medical Laboratories scholarship for the 2012-13 academic year at Eastern Washington University.

Dunlap graduated from Camas High School in 2001.

She is currently a senior majoring in biology, with a history minor at EWU, where she has participated in the Big Brother/Big Sister Program and will be applying to the medical technologies program at Sacred Heart in Spokane this fall.

She is the daughter of Cindy Morawski and Joe Dunlap.
