The FIRST Robotics Team Mean Machine, based out of Camas, recently competed in the World Championships in St. Louis Missouri in the Newton Division.

After three days of matches against the best in the world, Team Mean Machine was chosen by the second seeded team from Santa Barbara and another Michigan team to be a part of their alliance, earning them a spot in the elimination round.

Team Mean Machine includes students from Washougal and Camas high schools.

This year’s FIRST Robotics contest was a basketball-style game. After a hard-fought battle and mechanical mishaps, the alliance progressed to the semi-finals of the international competition, but faced a tough loss in both matches.

However, as semi-finalists, Team Mean Machine has the distinction of being one of the top 48 FIRST Robotics teams in the world.

“Not only did we achieve my personal goal of being at least a semi-finalist in our division, we were chosen by one of the best robotics teams in the world to work with them,” said Bud Hayes, team mentor.
