Camas football players, coaches and fans have been waiting anxiously to go to the Tacoma Dome. Thanks to this 2011 team, they only have to endure five more days.
In the state quarterfinals Saturday at Doc Harris Stadium, Camas trimmed Meadowdale 40-0 to reach the semifinals at the Tacoma Dome for the first time in school history.
Defense ruled the day for the Papermakers. Anthony Fallin returned the first of his two fumble recoveries for a touchdown to get Camas on the board late in the first quarter. Zack Marshall, Kamari Brown and John Payne also picked up fumbles. John Ashford sacked the Meadowdale quarterback in the end zone for a safety.
And there was plenty of offense. Jonathan Warner defied gravity as he hovered in the air to make two touchdown catches. Tony Gennaro also fired a touchdown pass to John Norcross. Marshall added 80 rushing yards and a touchdown to a remarkable night on defense. Roldan Alcobendas kicked a 25-yard field goal.
The Papermakers will clash with O’Dea in the semifinals Friday, at the Tacoma Dome. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
