Caleb Howard glides into the end zone with the help of his Washougal teammates Friday, at Kiggins Bowl. The senior scored a touchdown, recovered a fumble and snagged an interception to help the Panthers win 41-28. It's the first time Washougal beat Fort Vancouver in football since 1988.

It had been 23 years since Washougal beat Fort Vancouver in football.

More importantly for the Panthers, they put up 31 points on the Trappers in the fourth quarter to win 48-21 Friday at Kiggins Bowl.

Sam O’Hara hit a 37-yard field goal to help Washougal break a 14-14 tie near the end of the third quarter. The Panthers picked up the intensity on defense, and pushed Fort all the way back to the 2-yard line as time expired. The Trappers tried to punt the ball out of the end zone, but got blocked by Stephen Camden. A couple of Panthers dove on the loose ball in the end zone for a safety and two more points.

Fort had to kick the ball off to Washougal. After a 42-yard kick return by Karsen Short, Camden got the ball again and scored on a 7-yard touchdown run. The 17-point lead for the Panthers didn’t last long before the Trapper returned the next kickoff for a touchdown. Then, O’Hara broke away for a 55-yard touchdown to put Washougal back up by 17.

Fort fumbled the ensuing kickoff, and Caleb Howard recovered the football for the Panthers on the Trapper 27. Short made a sweet over-the-shoulder catch from Colton Sullivan in the corner of the end zone for another Washougal touchdown.

Fort tried to answer with a pass, but a Panther defender tipped it up in the air. Howard dove and caught the ball before it hit the ground for an interception. Washougal scored one more touchdown on a 17-yard run by Sullivan.

O’Hara racked up 165 rushing yards, Howard added 66, Austin Tofell delivered 62 and Camden chipped in 54. The offensive lineman were giving these Panthers holes to run through all night long.

Washougal (3-0) hosts Clatskanie Friday, for it’s Homecoming game. Kickoff is at 7 p.m., at Fishback Stadium.

Papermakers overpower Chiefs

Columbia River put up a quick six points Friday night, before Camas surged on to a 38-14 victory at Chieftain Stadium.

Zack Marshall had a 4-yard touchdown run and a 26-yard touchdown catch from Tony Gennaro. He racked up 60 yards rushing and 51 yards receiving. Gennaro added a 1-yard touchdown run and a 24-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Warner. He completed 13-of-his-20 passes for 182 yards.

John Norcross delivered his fourth touchdown for the Papermakers in three games. He turned a fake punt handoff into a 42-yard dash to the end zone. Dalton Debond, Kyle Goodnow and Anthony Fallin opened the doors for Norcross on that trick play. He took the key, and he never looked back.

Roldan Alcobendas kicked a 30-yard field goal for Camas. Zach Eagle made a tremendous acrobatic catch on the 1-yard line that set up Gennaro for his keeper into the end zone.

The 3-0 Papermakers have won their first two league games of the season. On Friday, Camas challenges Skyview (1-2) at Kiggins Bowl. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.
