If you live in the Camas School District and have supported the Camas Educational Foundation in the past, chances are your phone will be ringing at some point the next few nights.

That’s because the annual CEF phone-a-thon begins tonight and runs through Thursday. Students from Skyridge and Liberty middle schools, as well as Camas High School Key Club members, will be calling between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. to help secure donations.

Last year’s event brought in $21,000 in pledges to fund curriculum enhancements throughout the district, according to CEF President Ron Gompertz.

“The funds raised in this event help support our commitment to mini and major grants to district teachers, staff and students,” he said. “Projects funded range from reading assessment books to technology pilot programs. We fund sports equipment, musical instruments, technology for science labs, assemblies and more.”

In some cases, CEF will co-sponsor events and initiatives with school Parent Teacher Associations, to make both groups money stretch further, he added.

“CEF is a 100 percent volunteer organization dedicated to supporting innovation and augmenting curriculum across all schools and grade levels,” Gompertz said. “Our school district is one of Camas’ crown jewels and our students and teachers benefit from our community’s deep commitment to education. It’s especially important to show our support during times of economic hardship and budget cutbacks.”
