News Washougal residents interested in the potential water, sewer and storm water rate increases are invited to speak at a City Council public hearing.
Council last night approved the setting of Monday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m., as the public hearing for the proposed 2011 rates. That hearing is expected to occur prior to a hearing on the city’s $32.2 million preliminary budget.
The utility hikes could include 13.5 percent for water, 14.5 percent for storm water and 28.5 percent for sewer rates. Washougal Public Works Director Trevor Evers has said the increases would help pay for construction of the zone 4 water reservoir, as well as pipe improvements, sewer plant expansion and the design phase of storm water capital improvements.
The one million gallon water reservoir is expected to be built on 10 acres, at 1312 S.E. 352nd Ave. It is expected to serve 1,890 residences.
The potential utility increases will be among the topics of the next City Council workshop Monday, at 5:30 p.m., in the council chambers at City Hall, 1701 “C” St.
