Boosters sponsor acting clinic

Local children can learn tricks of the acting trade while their parents get a treat of free time at the upcoming Halloween Theatre Fun ‘N Games, sponsored by the Union High School Theatre Boosters.

It is designed for students in kindergarten through eighth grade, and the cost is $10 per child. The fee will be used by the Boosters to support upcoming productions of “Pride and Prejudice,” and “Grease.”

“We’re excited to offer a wide range of activities for students, from creative movement to improvisation to character development,” said Kim Pfluke, Booster president. “This is first time we’ve offered a Halloween event, and it’s going to be a lot of fun for everyone.”

The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Union High School in the Performing Arts Building, 6201 N.W. Friberg Strunk St. To pre-register, or for more information, send an E-mail to UHSTheatre@rocketmail.com or call Booster Club Registrar Robyn Curran at 513-6772.

CYT presents ‘The Little Mermaid’

Nineteen students from Camas and Washougal are part of the upcoming “The Little Mermaid” production by Christian Youth Theatre.

Performances will be held at Fort Vancouver High School, 5700 E. 18th St. Public performances will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5-7, and Nov. 12-14. Adult tickets are $12. Child and senior citizen tickets are $9. Tickets for Saturday matinees are $8. All tickets are $2 more at the door.

School Day performances are at 9:30 and 11:45 on Tuesday, Nov. 9. Tickets are $6 each. E-mail or call the CYT office to arrange to bring a class or home school group.

Kids can raise money, have fun

Children from schools in Clark County are invited to attend Kessid Center on the third Friday of every month, and raise money for their school PTA or PTO at the same time.

The center specializes in the arts and fitness.

From 6 to 8 p.m., the price will be $5 per child, with $2 given back to the school. Parents are admitted free. Children under 11 years old must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

WSD seeks communications committee members

The Washougal School District is seeking parents and community members to serve on the 2011 Communications Committee.

The committee will convene in January and meet the third Thursday of each month through May. It replaces the former budget and facilities committees. The agenda will be designed as a two-way communication opportunity, where district issues will be presented followed by committee discussion and feedback. It will be taken into consideration by Superintendent Teresa Baldwin and the Board of Directors.

The committee will be comprised of employees, parents and community members.

Two introductory meetings have been scheduled to explain the scope of the committee’s work. Interested parents and community members must attend one of these meetings to be considered for the committee. Meetings will be held Nov. 2 or Nov. 8, from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. in the Board Room at the District Office, 4855 Evergreen Way.
