Class helps newly licensed teens become better drivers
Newly licensed drivers are encouraged to participate in a program that aims to improve teens’ driving skills.
Driving Skills for Life is a national safety initiative created in 2003 by Ford Motor Company, the Governor’s Highway Safety Association, and a panel of safety experts. The goal is to help young drivers improve skills in areas including hazard recognition, vehicle handling, and space and speed management.
Several sessions of the class will be offered to newly licensed teens ages 15 to 19. On Wednesday, Aug. 18, and Thursday, Aug. 19, classes will be held from 8 a.m. to noon, and from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Students attend one of the four free sessions, which will be held at Emerald Downs in Auburn, Wash.
During the program, teens will drive specially equipped vehicles on closed road courses under the supervision of professional instructors.
