Achievers Scholarship recipients named

Three students chosen for new scholarship based on college plans, future careers, overcoming adversity

The Camas School District has established a new scholarship named after recently retired Assistant Superintendent Tanis Knight.

Three recent graduates, two from Camas High School and one from Hayes Freedom High School, are the recipients of the 2010 Tanis Knight Achievers Scholarship.

The scholarship criteria includes demonstrating determination to achieve personal and academic goals throughout high school, overcoming adversity and having future goals and plans.

The recipients are named below, along with their college and career plans:

o Haleigh Kratz: She graduated from CHS and received a $1,000 scholarship, and plans to attend Clark College and earn her associate of arts degree.

Afterward, she will transfer to the University of Portland or the University of Washington to earn a bachelor of science degree.

Her final schooling plans are to attend Midwestern University in Arizona for her master’s degree in occupational therapy.

o Justin Natyzak: He graduated from Hayes Freedom and received a $500 scholarship, and plans to attend Sierra College in Rocklin, Calif. and pursue a degree in nursing. He plans to enlist in the Marine Corps as a combat medic afterward.

o James Ells: He graduated from Hayes Freedom and received a $500 scholarship, and will attend Central Oregon Community College in Bend. He plans to transfer to the University of Washington, attend medical school and become a physician.
