Washougal Mayor David Stuebe holds a slight lead over his Democratic opponent for Washington’s 17th Legislative District, Position 2 seat, after a second ballot count on Wednesday, Nov. 6.
Though Niles initially led Stuebe 50.18% to 49.69% on election night, a second ballot count bumped Stuebe’s vote total from 30,306 votes Tuesday night to 32,333 votes as of Wednesday. The current results show Stuebe with 50.02% of the vote to Niles’ 49.84% (32,218 votes), with 87 votes (0.13%) for write-in candidates.
Other updated 17th District results show Republican Rep. Kevin Waters, who ran unopposed for the District’s Position 1 seat, with 42,132 votes (93.25%) and 3,051 votes (6.75%) for write-in candidates. And in the race for the 17th District’s senate seat between Republican Paul Harris — the current 17th District, Position 2 representative — and Democratic candidate Marla Keethler, results show that, as of the Wednesday evening ballot count, Harris is leading with 33,076 votes (50.77%) while Keethler has 31,995 votes (49.11%) and there 76 votes (0.12%) for write-in candidates.
The race for Clark County Council, District 4 also remains close after the second ballot count, with Camas candidate Matt Little trailing Joe Zimmerman, of Vancouver, by just 45 votes. As of Wednesday, Nov. 6, Zimmerman leads the race with 18,006 votes (49.72%) while Little has 17,961 votes (49.59%) and there are 249 votes (0.69%) for write-in candidates.
Clark County Elections Office has counted 213,857 ballots so far, with an estimated 62,000 ballots remaining as of Wednesday. The county will update election results at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7. Voter turnout in Clark County for the Nov. 5 general election is just under 62%.
