The Camas-Washougal Post-Record won three journalism awards in the Washington Newspaper Publishers Association (WNPA)’s 2024 Better Newspaper Contest (BNC).

The WNPA announced the 2024 BNC winners during its annual convention, held Oct. 4-5, in Olympia. Fifty Washington-based community newspapers took part in this year’s contest, with a total of 913 news entries, 314 photography entries and 41 “General Excellence” entrants competing for the BNC’s top awards.

The Post-Record won a second-place General Excellence award and the newspaper’s managing editor, Kelly Moyer, also took home two reporting awards in the BNC’s election and feature story categories.

Moyer won a third-place election story award for her Nov. 2, 2023 article, “Anonymous attack ads target Camas candidates,” about negative political billboards focused on Camas City Council candidates that contained false information.

Moyer also won a third-place award in the “general feature story, long” category for her Feb. 22, 2024 article, “On Top of the World,” about 2021 Camas High School graduate Andrew Okerlund, who became the youngest person to ever climb the “Bulger List,” a collection of Washington state’s highest mountain peaks, during a single climbing season.
