Two people were seriously injured after a motor vehicle collision on State Highway 14 at the Washougal River Roundabout on April 24.
Firefighter crews arrived on the scene and found one “heavily-damaged vehicle” on its side with two occupants, according to the Camas-Washougal Fire Department.
“The vehicle failed to negotiate the curve, struck the roundabout’s center landscaping, coming to rest on its side,” according to a Washington State Patrol crash memo.
The driver of the 1995 Ford Explorer, Timothy Wear, 56, of Stevenson, and the passenger, Jennifer Tolson, 44, of Vancouver were transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. Neither were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, which was caused by speed and involved drugs or alcohol, according to the memo.
The vehicle, which was “totaled,” according to the memo, displaced the “O,” “U,” and “G” letters in the roundabout’s “Washougal” artwork.
