Washougal brewery earns medal at prestigious beer festival

A Washougal brewery was recently recognized at the United States’ biggest beer-judging competition.

Trap Door Brewing’s “Day Beer” took bronze-medal honors Sept. 23, in the “Other Hoppy Lager” category at the 2023 Great American Beer Festival, held in Denver, Colorado. 

Washington state breweries brought home 14 medals from the festival, which evaluated 9,200 beers from 2,033 breweries. Beers were judged in 99 categories across 175 beer styles.

The competition took place in three phases over nine days and was judged by 250 beer experts from 10 countries.

Vancouver-based Trap Door Brewing opened its second location, dubbed “Whistle Stop Pub,” in downtown Washougal in the summer of 2022.
