A Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist drowned in a Skamania County river while conducting a fish survey on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
After the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a person entrapped in Wind River, north of Carson, personnel from the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office, Skamania County Emergency Medical Services, the Region 4 Technical Rescue Team, the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office dive team, along with search and rescue personnel from Skamania, Clark and Klickitat counties responded to the scene to facilitate rescue efforts.
Despite an “incredible response from all involved,” the 31-year-old woman was found dead, according to a news release.
“This was a tragic accident, and the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office is mournful for the victim’s family, friends and coworkers,” Sheriff Summer Scheyer stated in a news release. “I want to extend my utmost gratitude to all of the personnel who responded and assisted our agency in the recovery efforts.”
The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office said it had conducted a full investigation of the incident and determined the biologist’s death was accidental.
