Janice Marie Hancock

Dec. 11, 1958 – Sept. 7, 2023. Born in Vancouver, WA, Jannie was the third of four daughters born to Loren D. and Nancy J. (nee Thompson) Hancock.  She was proud to tell everyone she was born on her father’s 25th birthday.

A graduate of Camas High School, Jannie was in band, choir, and was a member of the acapella group 16th Notes.  After graduation, she worked at The Post Record as a typesetter.  She would hold many occupations during her lifetime.  Later in life, she took some college courses to continue her education.

In 1978, she married Scott W. Thomas.  They were the parents of two boys:  Ian Thomas and Adam Thomas.  In 1987, she married Benjamin Faler.  They were the parents of three children:  daughter Rachel Faler, and twins Benjamin Faler & Loren Faler.  In 1996, she married former classmate Ardi R. Lehto.  In recent years she was partnered with Ronald Minarik.  He was by her side, when she passed in Vancouver, WA.

Jannie enjoyed knitting and crocheting.  During her high school years, when other students were taking notes for a test, Jannie was creating something.  The next day, she would ace her test.  Jannie was an animal lover.  She was a Trekkie.  She was a fan of John Denver, Billy Joel, the original Dark Shadows television series, and the 1963 Pink Panther movie.  Jannie also enjoyed scuba diving, reading, and going out to lunch with the girls.

Jannie was predeceased by her father in 1998, mother in 2017, and step-brother Marc F. Mensch in 2006.  Besides her children and partner, Jannie leaves behind 3 sisters:  Elizabeth Cross, Catherine Hancock, Melinda Jemtegaard and 4 step-sisters:  Linda Craker, Marlene Scudder, Karen Wilkes, and Sheila Wilkes, who will miss her very much.  She also leaves behind granddaughter Annadaya Thomas; step-father Arlin Huseman, step-mother Winona Hancock, step-mother Jean Hancock, aunt Janet Hancock, aunt Barbara Neiman, uncle Gary Thompson, numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
